Globenews directly surveyed over 1500 UK companies, both public and private firms, to compile the Hot 500 ranking. They looked at the top-line turnover (revenue) growth between 1994 and 1997. All the financial figures came directly from the companys, or from other official sources such as Companies House. The research was conducted in April, May and June of 1998 and the results were announced on July 1.
